Las Vegas welcomes F1 with wildest party ever: drones, gambling, Jared Leto, J Balvin and more

The Las Vegas and Formula 1 era has officially begun. On Wednesday night, the city welcomed F1 into town in the most 'Vegas' way possible: drones, fireworks, gambling, light shows and a slew of entertainers like John Legend, Steve Aoki, Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban, DJ Tiesto, Journey, Jared Leto and J Balvin, amongst others. Not to mention, all twenty Formula 1 racers in their race day attire.

Formula 1 drivers were shown for a total of 2 minutes during the entire Las Vegas GP Opening Ceremony. The rest of the ceremony was a concert, aided by incredible visuals.

The fans weren't the only ones impressed. It's unlike anything the drivers themselves have seen even in the upscale world that is Formula One. "There's such a big hype, but personally, I underestimated how big this whole thing was going to be," said Alpine driver Pierre Gasly. "There's people everywhere. The location is fabulous. The Sphere in the background? I can't stop staring at it."

The Sphere is billed as the world's largest spherical structure. It has a massively bright exterior LED screen that will be on all week, including during the race itself. Though three particular colors will be banned during racing as a safety precaution.

Las Vegas, a major US tourist destination with 40 million annual visitors, is ready to host over 105,000 spectators, including 30,000 in the stands.

This is the first of three races committed to the city in this 'made in USA' Formula 1 era. Which will spanning for an entire 10 years in Miami and an additional five in Austin, Texas.
