Mike Tyson picks Fury to prevail over Usyk: He's going to overpower him

Mike Tyson believes that Tyson Fury will "overpower" Oleksandr Usyk when the pair meet in the ring to battle it out for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world in 2024.

The fight is finally happening between the Ukrainian, who holds the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO belts, against Fury (WBC) after talks broke down in early 2023 following disagreements over a rematch clause in the contract.

Fury recently defeated Francis Ngannou in October via split decision with "Iron Mike" present, allowing him to get a close look at how the undefeated "Gypsy King" operates in the ring across 12 rounds.

"I look forward to that fight [between Fury and Usyk]," Tyson said to Fight Hub TV. "That is going to be an interesting fight. I'm going towards Tyson Fury because I think he's just going to overpower him. He's going to catch up with him and overpower him.

"I got to go with Fury. I think he's the best fighter in the world, especially in the heavyweight division. Great fighters lose, great fighters look bad, [but] that doesn't stop them from being great fighters."

The clash between the 6ft 9in British fighter and the 6ft 3in Usyk would be the first time the heavyweight division has had an undisputed champion since 1999 provided that it doesn't end in a draw.

Tyson: Can't write Fury off based on Ngannou

Many anticipated Fury to blitz through Ngannou, who spent most of his career training MMA instead of boxing, but it was quite the contrary in Saudi Arabia.

The Cameroonian ex-UFC man proved more than a credible opponent and even dropped Fury in the middle rounds and whilst he didn't win on the night, he certainly stole the hearts of fighting fans.

Despite the upset, even if Fury won, Tyson knows he cannot be counted out on a sample of one.

"Hey, we should [not focus on what Fury did against Ngannou], but you have to understand he is still the champion. He made that night a great night.

"He gave Francis the opportunity and that was just a bad night at the office for him. We all have bad nights, and listen, that was his bad night."
