Roest becomes world champion in Allround Speed Skating

The Olympic silver medalist Patrick Roest from the Netherlands has surprisingly become a world champion in speed skating for the first time.

The 1500-meter specialist scored 154,547 points in the Open Air Championships in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam in front of 20,000 spectators, after he finished second in the 10,000 meters final.

Sverre Lunde Pedersen (154,941) crashed in the final meters of the race and missed the first world title for Norway in 24 years.

A big disappointment was the appearance of the nine-time all-around world champion Sven Kramer from the Netherlands, who took fourth place in the overall classification with a modest sixth place on the 10,000 meters. He had to leave bronze to his compatriot Marcel Bosker (155,953).
