Europa League final: Atlético Madrid beat Olympique Marseille 3-0

For the third time since 2010 and 2012, Atlético Madrid wins the Europa League. Olympique Marseille dominated first, but the efficient Madrilenians scored the goals.

Atlético Madrid were favored as being more valued and more experienced and successful in European Cup finalists. But the gameplay of the first half could have led to another result and Marseille had a chance at the second European title after 1993 (victory in the Champions League).

The Marseillais would have been able to lead after only four minutes if striker Valère Germain had not fired too close after a perfect pass by Dimitri Payet.

The defensive player André-Frank Zambo Anguissa let a not difficult to control ball from the foot into the feet of Gabi. After this fatal mistake, a simple pass was enough and Antoine Griezmann appeared alone in front of goalie Steve Mandanda. The goal came from nowhere, but in a similar way, Atlético had already prevailed in the semi-finals against Arsenal.

In the first half Marseille and coach Rudi Garcia suffered another unearned setback. The playmaker Dimitri Payet had to be replaced after just over half an hour. He was already battered when the final started.

The events of the second half justified Atlético's third European League triumph after 2010 and 2012 in full. The Spaniards took advantage of the weakening of the opponent and dominated from now on clearly. Griezmann appeared alone in front of Mandanda - after a brilliant pass from Koke and scored the first goal. This time, Griezmann outsmarted the goalie with a chip. In the last ten minutes, Marseille put up another defeat. The best chance was for the Greek substitute striker Konstantinos Mitroglou who hit the post. But also in this phase only Atletico was able to be efficient - with Gabi scoring the third goal after 89 minutes.

Lyon. - Attendance: 58'000 .
