24 Hours of Le Mans 2018: Fernando Alonso triumphs with Toyota

Once again, the 24-hour race at Le Mans was one of the highlights of the motorsport season. Ironically, the former Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso won the race with Toyota and becomes a motorsport legend.

After Timo Bernhard won the prestigious race last year, "rookie" Fernando Alonso drove the Toyota team to victory in 2018.

For Toyota, the only team to feature a hybrid car, it was the first and long-awaited triumph at the prestigious Le Mans race. After the world title in Formula 1 and the victory in Le Mans Alonso now wants to win the Indy 500 to write motorsport history.

So far, only the Englishman Graham Hill managed the feat to clear the three most prestigious titles in motorsport. Alonso already participated in the 2017 Indy 500 and because of his strong car he managed to be one of the favorites. The Spaniard showed impressive driving skills and was voted "rookie of the year" after the race. An engine failure after 180 laps, however, prevented even greater success.
