Two European gold medals for Swiss mountain bikers

The Swiss mountain bikers were very strong at the cross-country championship in Glasgow. After Jolanda Neff's triumph in the women's competition, Lars Forster took the title in the men's section.

Jolanda Neff has become European champion in cross-country for the third time. The rider from St. Gallen celebrated an impressive solo victory at the European Championships in Glasgow. Silver went to the Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and bronze to the Belgian Githa Michiels.

The 25-year-old St. Galler prevailed over Italian Luca Braidot and Spaniard David Valero. He takes over the jersey of European champion Florian Vogel, who missed the successful title defense, finishing in eleventh.

Right next to the podium, Lukas Flückiger and Reto Indergand were in fourth and fifth place. The big favorite Mathieu van der Poel was among the defeated. The Dutchman, on whose strengths the fast-paced, technically not too demanding route would have been tailored, lost early the connection and gave up.
