Formula 1: Hamilton wins race in Sochi

Fifth victory in a row for a Mercedes at the Grand Prix of Russia: Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton wins and extends the championship lead over Sebastian Vettel.

After his defeat at the Russian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel no longer has the Formula 1 World Championship in his own hands. After another demonstration of power by defending champion Lewis Hamilton, Vettel can not fulfill his dream of winning the fifth World Cup this year on his own. Hamilton drove to victory thanks to another strong performance and the help of his second-placed team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

In the classification Hamilton increased with his eighth victory in the 16th race of the season the lead over Vettel to 50 points. With five pending Grand Prix this year, Vettel won't be a world champion even with five wins if Hamilton would finish second.

Team order brings Hamilton forward

Previously, Mercedes had already made use of the team order. On lap 25, Bottas was asked by the command post to slow down a bit for Hamilton to pass. Then the Finn drove as a buffer between his teammate and Vettel and made sure that the German could not be dangerous - which would not have happened anyway due to the much slower Ferrari.

Hamilton drove safely to his 70th Formula 1 victory and received his trophy at the award ceremony from the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
