Kenyan Kipchumba wins Vienna City Marathon

Kenyan Vincent Kipchumba surprisingly won the 36th Vienna City Marathon on Sunday. With 2:06:56 hours, the 28-year-old prevailed in the second-best ever time in Vienna before the Swiss favorite Tadesse Abraham (2:07:24) and Solomon Mutai (2:08:25) from Uganda.

Fastest woman was the Kenyan Nancy Kiprop, who set a new VCM course record with 2:22:12. The 39-year-old won in Vienna for the third time in a row. The best performance since 2000 held this year the late Italian Maura Viceconte (2:23:47). Kiprop's compatriot Angela Tanui was second behind more than three minutes. "I'm really happy, I really did a good job, that's incredible, the plan was the track record, and I reached the finish line after two years," Kiprop cheered, traveling alone along the corridor with a pacemaker almost the entire distance had been.
