2019 Chinese Grand Prix: Hamilton wins 1000th race, Vettel in third

Double victory for Mercedes at the anniversary race in Shanghai: Lewis Hamilton won the 1000th Grand Prix in the history of Formula 1 ahead of his silver arrow colleague Valtteri Bottas. The World Champion also takes over the lead in the World Cup classification from the Finn.

"When we came here, we did not know where we were," the winner said afterwards: "I got off to a good start and then it just went. Everything worked perfectly. "With now 75 Grand Prix victories, the Englishman is getting closer and closer to the record world champion Michael Schumacher (91).

The theme of the day was, however, Ferrari. With third place for Sebastian Vettel and fifth place Charles Leclerc the Scuderia experienced not only the third sporting disappointment in the third World Cup run. It also threatens in-team hardships.

The 21-year-old Leclerc questions Vettel's number one position more and more openly. In China, the Monegasse got off to a better start and overtook the German, who had started in front of him, in turn one. After ten laps, the team management asked him to let Vettel pass. Leclerc obeyed - in great protest. Almost by the end of the race, he kept venting his displeasure via radio.
