Barnett: Real Madrid fans have been disgusting to Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett is in Madrid and he hit out at Real Madrid fans when speaking to reporters at the city's airport.
Barnett said that he doesn't care what fans of Los Blancos think about the forward and criticised the way they have treated his client in recent years, with abuse recently shouted in Bale's direction at the road next to Real Madrid's Valdebebas training centre.
"I don't, why should I care?" the agent told El Chiringuito when asked if he considers the opinion of the Real Madrid fanbase.
"I think they've been disgusting to Gareth Bale."
Bale's agent on the forward's future
Later, he also spoke with Deportes Cuatro and then he was asked about the 32-year-old's future.
"We have to wait and see [if he'll stay for next season]," Barnett responded when asked if the player could stay on at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the 2022/23 season, after the expiry of his contract in June.
"He lives here and his family are here. He loves Madrid."
Barnett was then asked about the injury Bale picked up when playing for Wales in World Cup qualifying, with this latest fitness issue frustrating Real Madrid supporters given that he hasn't been able to play for his club since September.
"It's unfortunate, but he had to play for Wales as it was very important for the World Cup," the agent said of Bale's participation in those national team matches.
"It's an injury that could happen to anybody, but unfortunately it happened to him."
Bale is set for another spell on the sidelines, after only managing to play in the first three matches of Real Madrid's 2021/22 season, against Alaves, Levante and Real Betis. Apart from the November international break, he has been out injured the rest of the time.
