The story behind Mauro Icardi's potential retirement
The saga between Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi and wife Wanda Nara brought much controversy and even reached the world of football. After several weeks, the couple finally decided not to separate.
There had been tension between the two after allegations that Icardi had cheated on Wanda Nara, which saw her leave Paris to head home to Milan.
Icardi went after her, abandoning his club commitments with PSG and missing training before pulling out of the squad to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
During those moments, Icardi reportedly said he would retire from football if he and Wanda Nara were to divorce and she, as his agent, confirmed these reports at a later date.
In a conversation with Susana Gimenez, Nara was questioned about these rumours.
"You have to see if he would have done it, these are things you say...," she replied.
It appears as though Icardi used this possibility as an excuse to try to keep everything in order with Wanda Nara.
These actions have seen his club side think a lot less of the Argentinian, who is now highly unlikely to remain a PSG player for much longer.
The issues Icardi and his personal life have caused PSG have created more problems than solutions, which has reportedly swayed the club's decision regarding his future.
The beginning of Icardi and Wanda Nara's partnership was just as rocky, as it became known that fellow Argentine player Maxi Lopez split with Nara after she was engaging in activities with Icardi while Lopez was still married to her.
This incident saw Icardi left out of the Argentina squad for the 2018 World Cup, something which is likely to happen again in Qatar in 2022.
