Dalvin Cook, Deebo Samuel injured in Vikings loss to 49ers
The Minnesota Vikings (5-6) lost their Week 12 mathup to the San Francisco 49ers (6-5), but perhaps the biggest loss was Dalvin Cook going down with injury. Cook lost a fumble after getting stuck in a pileup between one his blockers and a Niners defender.
Cook's right leg seemed to be the problem at first glance, twisting awkwardly as he went down. He then started grabbing at his shoulder while on the floor, where he remained for several moments before getting carted into the locker room.
The running-back has seen many injuries in the past that would seemingly keep him off the gridiron for weeks, only to return sooner than expected. This time, though, Cook was visibly upset, crying as he left the field.
Jimmy G survives his interception
Leading up to this game, 49ers had lost every game where Jimmy Garoppolo had thrown at least one pick, and won every match where he didn't turn the ball over. This time, Garoppolo managed to lead the team to victory in spite of his mistakes, completing 17 of his 26 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown.
On the other end, Kirk Cousins didn't do much to give his team a shot at overtime, throwing two incompletions to finish the game. Cousins threw two touchdown passes to Adam Thielen at the beggining stages of the game, but once Cook left, Alexander Mattison was not enough to open the RPO for Minnesota.
Mattison was able to rush for a touchdown to inch the Vikings closer on the scoreboard after a long carry by Cook. The run came midway the third quarter to put the score at 20-28 in favor of San Francisco after a missed extra point by the Vikings kicker.
Kene Nwangwu proved to be one of the league's best returners with a 99-yard touchdown after a punt to give the Vikings six more points. Justin Jefferson only had four catches for 83 yards, while Thielen had 62 yards on 5 receptions.
Samuel plays RB, scores 2 rush TDs
Deebo Samuel also left the game with a groin injury after scoring two rushing touchdowns for San Francisco. Samuel, a natural wide receiver, only caught one ball for 12 yards.
Instead, the bulk of his work came on the ground, rushing for 66 yards on 6 carries. He left the game in the third quarter with a groin injury, remaining on the sideline with his helmet off for the remainder of the afternoon.
Samuel will undergo an MRI, raising concern over his well-being moving forward, especially after only trailing Cooper Kupp in total yards this season. He will be questionable to play Week 13 as San Fraancisco visit the Seattle Seahawks.
Vikings will travel to Detroit for an easy match against the Lions, who have yet to win a game this season. Mattison will likely have a big night in Cook's absence.
