Wild Wild West got wilder with Broncos' win over Chargers

Despite a leg injury that quarterback Teddy Bridgewatter missed time with, the Denver Broncos kept their positive momentum going and got back into the fray in the AFC West with a 28-13 home win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Two interceptions by Surtain to Herbert, the key to the win

Two interceptions from rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. to Justin Herbert were vital in the win for the home team, in fact, the second of them, in the fourth period, secured Denver's victory as Surtain returned it 70 yards to the end zone.

The score opened fairly with an 11-yard touchdown carry by Bridgewatter in the first quarter.

Javonte Williams added to the Mile High City's lead in the second quarter with a seven-yard carry into the end zone.

Bridgewatter was injured and returned

Bridgewatter had to give his place to Drew Lock, but returned after x-rays came back negative.

Los Angeles broke the shutout thanks to a pass from Justin Herbert to running back Austin Ekeler that broke 12 yards to the end zone shortly before halftime.

There were no touchdowns in the third period, but in the fourth the score was 21-7 with Bridgewatter's one-yard touchdown pass to Eric Saubert.

After that came the aforementioned interception returned for a touchdown by Surtain to Herbert to prevent a comeback by the former San Diego team.

The score was capped off with a wonderful catch by Chargers' tight end Jared Cook on a 16-yard pass from Herbert, the two-point conversion was missed.

With this result, the Broncos, Chargers and Raiders (6-5) remained one game behind the AFC West leaders, the Chiefs (7-4).

What's next?

The Broncos, with two wins in a row, will look to extend that streak when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football (December 5).

On the same day, the Los Angeles Chargers will visit the Cincinnati Bengals.
