Koeman reaches deal with Barcelona to terminate his contract

Barcelona have reached an agreement with former coach Ronald Koeman on the terms of his contract termination, following his dismissal at the end of October.

Following rising tensions at the club during Koeman's tenure, speculation had been building up in October as to how much longer the Dutchman could stay in his position.

Finally, after Barcelona's 1-0 loss away at Rayo Vallecano, Koeman was given his marching orders, with fellow club legend Xavi Hernandez having come in to replace him.

The deal agreed between Barcelona and Koeman is a settlement of 10 million euros, saving the Catalan club a total of two million euros.

A sacking that was a long time coming

Koeman originally arrived at the Camp Nou during the tenure of former club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Since Joan Laporta's return to the club as present, however, things at the club began to spiral. After his first season at the helm of the Catalan club, Laporta was already looking for a new head coach, without any success.

As a result, Koeman stayed and it took a string of bad results for the Dutchman to finally lose his job at the club.
