Sergio Ramos debut closer

It has been a difficult period for Sergio Ramos since he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, with a lingering injury from his Real Madrid days preventing him from making his debut to this point, yet he has been given a huge boost that he can finally return to the pitch on Saturday.

PSG are set to face Nantes in a Ligue 1 match on Saturday, and Ramos is likely to be available, a mere four months after he penned his contract in the French capital.

Ramos returned to full training with the senior squad in Paris earlier in the week, even though a number of senior stars away on international duty.

Mauricio Pochettino has been waiting for defensive reinforcements of late, given the fact Presnel Kimpembe has an injury issue, and Ramos' return certainly provides just that.

The former Southampton coach is usually cautious with players returning from injury, so it seems likely that Ramos will begin the match on the bench, but he is expected to be introduced at some stage.

Differences between the player and the club's medical staff have made the early days of the relationship between Ramos and the Parisian giants somewhat problematic.

There were even stories within the media that the former Real Madrid captain could have his contract with PSG rescinded before even playing a single match, but those fears now appear totally unfounded.

The incorporation of Ramos into the PSG squad comes at a perfect moment with the French club set to take on Manchester City in the Champions League in under a week.

It is a match that will have huge implications on just who can finish top of the group and get what is, on paper, a more favourable draw in the first knockout round.

Ramos has incredible experience in the Champions League, winning the trophy four times during his Los Merengues career, and it will be this level of experience that could prove vital for PSG moving into the latter stages of the tournament, and it is exactly why the veteran was signed.
