This is what happened in Solskjaer's final hours as Man United coach
Manchester United's 4-1 defeat away at Watford was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last game in charge of the Red Devils, as the club decided to part ways with the Norwegian coach.
The decision to sack Solskjaer was made official on Sunday, when United released a statement to confirm that Michael Carrick will act as the interim coach after the Norwegian coach's departure.
Solskjaer was appointed as Manchester United's caretaker coach himself back in December 2018, with the club then appointing him on a permanent basis in summer 2019. However, the former Molde coach failed to lead the Red Devils all the way to a trophy, with Manchester United losing last season's Europa League final to Villarreal on penalties.
The events after the Watford game
The Daily Mail have revealed what happened in Solskjaer's final hours as Manchester United coach following the final whistle away at Watford.
Solskjaer went over to the visiting Manchester United fans to apologise for the team's performance and result, with Bruno Fernandes urging them to blame the team instead.
Then, several players were in tears in the dressing room, where Solskjaer stressed that he was uncertain whether he would continue in the dugout.
Manchester United directors arranged a series of emergency meetings, but struggled to reach a unanimous decision on whether the coach should be sacked.
Sunday's official statement
Solskjaer reportedly arrived at the team's training ground on Sunday, where executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward informed him of the board's decision to part ways.
Players gathered at 10:00 GMT for Sunday's morning training session, where Solskjaer informed them that he was leaving the club, who released an official statement around half an hour later.
Then, Solskjaer had his last meal at the training ground and, after bidding farewell to the staff, he left the Aon Training Complex as fans gathered to say goodbye and take some pictures with him.
