Tyson on Canelo: 'If anyone can exceed Chávez, I'm sure it would be him'

Boxing legend Mike Tyson was one of the attendees at Saúl Canelo Álvarez vs. Caleb Plant weigh-in, prior to their undisputed super middleweight title fight, in Las Vegas.

Among press questions, 'Iron Mike' did not hesitate to assure that the favorite to win this fight is the Mexican champion, and added that Saúl will prove that he is much better than Plant.

"I believe Canelo is going to knock him out!", Tyson said.

He also recalled the way the Mexican boxer bounced back after his only loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"He wasn't discouraged when he lost to [Floyd] Mayweather. I judge a fighter by his losses, rather than his wins", he said for Showtime.

"(Alvarez has) proven himself to be the best fighter of his generation", Iron Mike added.

Can Canelo exceed Julio César Chávez?

However, Tyson was questioned about Canelo's legacy and whether he can surpass Julio César Chávez as the best Mexican boxer in history.

The former heavyweight champion considered it "almost impossible" for Álvarez to be above the "Cesar of Boxing", but left the door open to that option.

"If anyone can do it, I'm sure it would be Canelo", Tyson added.

Chávez himself also went to Las Vegas to be present at the Canelo Álvarez fight, and met with Tyson, who showed him respect.
