Was Prescott ready to return? A nightmare for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have 25 years without winning a Super Bowl, a quarter of a century full of unfulfilled expectations and when the NFL world gave Dak Prescott's team credit for being a candidate to break that streak, everything collapsed in one game.

Prescott was coming back from an injury that prevented him from participating in the Week 8 matchup, "America's Team" beat the Minnesota Vikings without the need of his services and when his return was announced for the home game against the Denver Broncos, critics assumed it would be an easy win for the team led by Mike McCarthy.

Worst numbers of his career

But Prescott's performance was, in many ways both statistically and visually, the worst of his career, which raises the justifiable question, was Dak Prescott ready to return?

In the first half of the game, according to ESPN data, the Cowboys' #4 completed only 5 of the 14 passes he attempted (35.7%), the worst percentage in a half in his five-year career.

Dallas was blanked 16-0 by Denver in the first two quarters.

At the end of the game, Prescott's numbers weren't so terrible, 19 of 39 pass completions for 232 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, but the team was already down 30-0 and it was the last quarter, Denver slowed down and the game ended 30-16.

How much did the injury weigh?

How much was it the calf injury? How much was it the lack of game rhythm?

The only thing that is certain is that Dallas halted a six-game winning streak and that, despite the shocking loss, they have a big lead in the NFC East.

The real concern for Mike McCarthy and company is whether this game ends up being a watershed of yet another disappointment in the last 25 years.

Only time will help us complete the story.
