West Ham fan loses finger in celebrations away at Genk

Actualizado

A travelling fan lost his finger during goal celebrations in an incident that took place when Said Benrahma completed his brace for West Ham away at Genk in the Europa League on Thursday.

Despite the hosts taking the lead early in the first half through Joseph Paintsil, Benrahma netted twice in the second half for the Hammers. However, the visitors failed to hold onto their lead, as Tomas Soucek netted an own goal with two minutes to go in the match that ended in a 2-2 draw.

After the game, a video went viral on social media showing someone picking up the fan's finger and placing it on a fence.

According to Mirror Sport, the unfortunate supporter received medical treatment after fans informed the security guards of the incident.

"I thought the away fans were fabulous." West Ham coach David Moyes said after the game.

"They were great, right from the start, they were incredible.

"They were in the ground very early but I think in the Premier League our away fans have been very good and we appreciated it.

"They were all looking forward to the European games they were all really looking forward to because it's something which we've not had."

In Moyes' 1000th game as a coach, West Ham managed to come one step closer to securing qualification to the Europa League knockouts, as they are currently topping Group H with 10 points in four games.
