Hamilton on the ropes as Verstappen secures pole position

Max Verstappen has managed to secure his tenth pole position of the season and now he has a huge advantage ahead of Sunday's race in Abu Dhabi.

The Dutchman is level on points with Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' rankings as they have picked up 369.5 each, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix being the last of the season and the one where the title will be decided.

Hamilton will start in second place, followed by McLaren driver Lando Norris, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, who will start in fifth place. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso was one of the five drivers to be knocked out in Q2 and will start in the 11th place.

Hence, Verstappen will have the advantage of the soft tires and will try to pull a gap on Hamilton. This time, Red Bull tricked Mercedes with their strategy, as they started Q2 on medium tires and then suddenly switched to soft.

Many may have thought that this move was a result of Verstappen giving up pole position, but the Dutchman went on to secure first place in the grip for Sunday.
