Real Madrid take on Atletico in pursuit of 10th win in a row

Real Madrid have not lost a single game since their 2-1 defeat to Espanyol on October 3, and should they beat Atletico Madrid on Sunday that would see them register their 10th win in a row in all competitions.

Following their 2-0 victory against Inter at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, Los Blancos clinched top spot in Group D and qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League.

To do so, they won three successive games in Europe against Shakhtar Donetsk, Sheriff Tiraspol and the reigning Serie A champions.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid managed six consecutive victories in LaLiga Santander and are currently top of the table, sitting eight points ahead of Sevilla, nine clear of Real Betis and 10 ahead of Real Sociedad and Atletico.

Focusing on the league

Real Madrid needed one point to seal top spot in their Champions League group but managed to overcome Simone Inzaghi's side, while Atletico Madrid were bottom of the table in Group B but progressed to the last 16 with a win at Porto.

Now, Los Blancos need to focus their attention back on LaLiga Santander, as they are facing their main rivals for the title in Atleti.

Five days of truce

Real Madrid have five days to prepare for the derby with Los Rojiblancos, which will take place on Sunday at 20:00 GMT at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos have played three games in a space of six days, with Karim Benzema being the victim of the congested calendar, as he picked up a muscular injury against Real Sociedad and missed out on the Inter clash.

Benzema is doubtful for the Madrid derby, with Carlo Ancelotti crossing his fingers that his striker will make it in time for the important match against Atleti.
