Which players will leave Manchester United? 7 players who could be off before next season

Manchester United's 4-1 loss to Manchester City underlined the difficult season the Red Devils are having, so the consensus is that a reset is needed. Many players are out of contract at the end of the season, whilst some of United's stars such as Marcus Rashford are considering a transfer request.

Rashford, who came through the United academy, has started two of the last 11 Premier League games and the news of his possible departure is further proof of the state United are in.

An in-form Jadon Sancho and the emergence of Anthony Elanga has left Rashford out of the starting XI, but the reality is he has rarely performed when given opportunities.

Some Manchester United players are counting down the days

Several players' contracts expire on June 30, including Paul PogbaJesse LingardJuan Mata and Edinson Cavani and it's hard to see why any of them would stay.

Lingard has already been linked with a move to Newcastle, whilst the others have not been happy at Old Trafford for a long time.

Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, who are currently on loan at Sevilla and Everton, may not return to United and the futures of Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly are in doubt too.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at United

Then there is Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers ever. Yet, he might be regretting his return to Manchester, six months on from his second arrival at Old Trafford.

United would have to qualify for the Champions League to have any chance of keeping Ronaldo. Even then, the current state of the United dressing room can't be a nice place for Ronaldo to spend the last years of his career.

Ronaldo wants to win more trophies before he retires from football and, if United take a long-term approach, the wise decision for the Portuguesa international would be to leave.
