Why aren't Casemiro and Mendy playing for Real Madrid against PSG?

Real Madrid host Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night in the second leg of their Champions League tie needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit after their loss in Paris, inflicted on them by Kylian Mbappe's late magic at the Parc des Princes.

But, Carlo Ancelotti won't have it easy in the Spanish capital and the Real Madrid boss will have to find a way to win without two of his most important players as both Casemiro and Ferland Mendy will be unavailable for selection. The reason for their absence is suspension, with both having picked up yellow cards in Paris three weeks earlier.

Each of Casemiro and Mendy arrived in Paris in February having collected two yellow cards during the group phase, knowing that a booking on the night would see them handed a suspension.

Casemiro received his booking first. His caution came midway through the first half when he fouled Leandro Paredes and Italian referee Daniele Orsato showed no hesitation in brandishing a yellow card. Mendy was then booked in the second half for a foul on Danilo Pereira.

As a result of both cards, Ancelotti will have to find solutions on Wednesday night against Mauricio Pochettino's side. It's likely that Nacho Fernandez will come into the team to either deputise at left-back or to fill in at centre-back with David Alaba shifting out to the left.

One of Fede Valverde or Eduardo Camavinga is expected to step in for Casemiro, though both could make the XI if Toni Kroos isn't able to make the team as his race to find fitness continues.
