Tuchel understands fan who had spat with Azpilicueta after Chelsea's loss to Arsenal

Cesar Azpilicueta was involved in a heated exchange of words with a Chelsea supporter after the Blues' loss at home to Arsenal on Wednesday night, and Thomas Tuchel has empathised with the fan.

The Spanish defender scored Chelsea's second equalising goal on the night, before they would go on to lose 4-2 and fall to a third straight home defeat. The win allowed the Gunners to go level with Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, and they now sit just five points off the Blues.

"I was not part of it. I saw it, but, honestly, I can also understand the fan," Tuchel said when quizzed about the Azpilicueta incident. "It was a totally wild and open game in the first half, already at 2-2 after we came back twice."

Chelsea's mistakes

On the game and the result as a whole, Tuchel was again left disappointed by what he saw from his team, lamenting the mistakes that were made as their poor home run continues.

"We had a good start but again gave the first goal away, which is impossible to do these things in consecutive matches," Tuchel said. "But we're doing it.

"We came back twice and we scored another two in the second half, unfortunately for the wrong side. It's a level of mistakes, the number of mistakes in consecutive games here at home, it's impossible at this kind of level. You don't see this. It's simply impossible, but we're doing this at the moment and you cannot win football games like this."
