Canelo vs. Golovkin: What is the big risk that the Mexican boxer could pay dearly for?

Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin are a month away from their third fight and the Mexican will arrive as the favorite, but if GGG manages to prevail it will be "very serious" for the Mexican fighter's career, according to Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

The Mexican fighter took a risk in May when he moved up to the semi-complete weight division to face Dmitry Bivol, but was outclassed in 12 rounds. Thus, a second straight loss in Canelo's career would be something difficult to overcome and catastrophic in his professional career, in addition to tarnishing his legacy.

Canelo Alvarez: I'm in the running to be the best in history

"Canelo Alvarez has everything to lose, his legacy is at stake because another consecutive defeat would be something very serious in his career and Golovkin is coming to seek revenge after many years of having drawn and then lost to Canelo," said the WBC president to the media.

Past two fights between Canelo and GGG

These fighters already faced each other twice, the first one in September 2017 and that ended in a draw; a year later they faced each other again in the same city of Las Vegas, where they will fight again, and Canelo won.

Thus, 24 rounds have already passed and more are coming, although Canelo does not have the slightest intention of making it another 12, as he wants to finish the fight by knockout. Whatever happens in the ring, Mauricio Sulaiman believes it will be a great fight.

"It is a fight for which there is great expectation. After 24 rounds they have given us, all of them very good. The third fight will come and I'm sure it will be a great fight".

Canelo will put his undisputed title on the line

Canelo Alvarez, who is the undisputed super middleweight champion, will put his WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF titles on the line on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena, in one of the most anticipated fights for the fans in the last months of the year.
