Cristiano Ronaldo forced to train away from Manchester United first team

Cristiano Ronaldo did not train with the rest of his teammates on Friday as he arrived at Manchester United's training ground in the morning to work out on his own.

The Portuguese star refused to featured off the bench in Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Tottenham and departed the Old Trafford before the final whistle.

Following the incident, the club released a statement to inform fans that Ronaldo has been dropped from the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday.

Ronaldo has been handed a 720,000 pound fine, which is two weeks' wages, for refusing to come off the bench and The Sun reported that he doesn't have the support of any teammate in the dressing after the incident.

Ten Hag on Cristiano

Meanwhile, coach Erik ten Hag reportedly wants the club to get rid of Ronaldo in January, just a few months after the former Real Madrid star handed in a transfer request.

Despite releasing a statement on social media on Thursday, Ronaldo didn't apologise publicly for his action during the Spurs clash.

"As I've always done in my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches," Ronaldo's post on Instagram read.

"That hasn't changed. I'm the same person that I've been for the last 20 years playing elite football and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process.

"I started very young and the older and most experienced players' examples were always very important to me.

"Therefore, later on, I've always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters in the teams I've represented.

"Unfortunately that's not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us."
