Mbappe's silence in Qatar: The reasons and the fine he faces

Kylian Mbappe left the stadium after France's win over Denmark with his trophy for player of the match. A well-deserved award after his brace, to add to his goal in the opener against Australia.

The PSG striker went through the mixed zone smiling but without making any statements to journalists.

World Cup 2022: France vs Denmark

Up to seven players from France attended the media area with or without needing to: Hugo Lloris as captain and who always gives some quotes, Aurelien Tchouameni, Antoine Griezmann, Jules Kounde, Olivier Giroud, Dayot Upamecano and Raphael Varane were all there.

The silence of Mbappe has its price. It is likely that both the player and the French Football Federation will accept the significant financial penalty it carries by mutual agreement.

For the first occasion, against Australia, the FFF was already warned for not taking the player out in front of the official media and now that he is a repeat offender, he will not be spared the fine. Another question is who will pay the fine, the player or his federation.

The reasons for the silence

What is clear is that not appearing before the media is probably an idea shared by both parties.

They both know that Mbappe will be questioned about his future and the player does not want his situation to either distract or divert the focus from his national team, the first to qualify for the round of 16.

Mbappe knows that everything he says will transcend far above the national team and does not want to do so for now.

He has also not given a press conference at the Qatar training camp after Lloris, Marcus Thuram, Matteo Guendouzi, Tchouameni, Upamecano, Eduardo Camavinga, Jordan Veretout, Olivier Giroud, Lucas Hernandez, Dembele, Varane and Theo Hernandez will do so.

Germany has already been fined

Germany is another team that has to face an important economic sanction. The German federation did not bring any players to the press room in the run-up to the Spain game on Sunday.

Hansi Flick was the only one to appear in the press room even though it is mandatory for a player to accompany the coach.

The German Football Association has accepted the fine as it was their way of protesting the FIFA veto by not allowing their captain to wear the One Love armband for human rights in the opener against Japan.
