Mike Tomlin's touching message of support for Damar Hamlin, young man he loves dearly

If anyone is affected and very aware of what happens to Damar Hamlin, it's Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who lamented what happened and hopes the Buffalo Bills player recovers.

"I've known that guy probably since he was about 12 years old. "[I have] a lot of respect and love for him as a human being, his commitment to pursuing his goals and his dreams, to do what he's doing right now, which is playing in the NFL. It's an honor to meet young people like that," Tomlin said at a press conference.

Tomlin regretted what happened to Hamlin

Pitsburgh was one of the few teams that continued with their traditional conferences after what happened on Monday Night Football, as some teams chose not to speak. And the Steelers head coach remembers him fondly, so his prayers are with the young man who remains in critical condition.

"I had a chance to express that to him every time I see him. We played Buffalo each of the last two seasons, and he and I have a moment. I have a lot of love for that young man. We pray for him. I contacted Sean McDermott to give him any help I could, but I don't have much to add beyond that," he added.

Damar Hamlin's chilling collapse

On Monday night, Hamlin suffered a chilling blow that knocked him down, and although he got to his feet, moments later he collapsed to set off alarm bells in the Bills-Bengals game. He was administered CPR, oxygen and taken to the hospital. The game was postponed and it was later reported that Hamlin's vital signs had returned to normal.

The latest report said the Buffalo Bills safety was in critical condition. He suffered cardiac arrest on the field and had to be intubated when he arrived at the hospital. The NFL Players Association has spoken out about what happened and sent its support to the Bills safety.
