Barcelona's title maths: When can they seal the LaLiga Santander title?

Barcelona's draw against Girona on Monday was another step closer to winning LaLiga Santander.

The Blaugrana were already well on track after their win against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou recently, but now they have taken another step forward by taking advantage of Los Blancos' surprise slip-up against Villarreal and the draw against Girona, even if a win would have been preferable.

The gap has gone to 13 points and everyone at Barcelona is already doing the maths to see when they could be crowned champions.

With 10 games to go, it is very difficult to make a prediction as to when they'll mathematically seal it.

However, if Barcelona win their next matches and Real Madrid lose them, they could be champions as early as Matchday 31.

To do so, they would have to win their next two games against Getafe and Atletico Madrid, while Carlo Ancelotti's side would have to lose to Cadiz and Celta Vigo.

It would then come to Matchday 31 in which Barcelona travel to Madrid to face Rayo Vallecano. If they get the three points and Real Madrid lose at Montilivi against Girona, they could be champions.

Barcelona and Real Madrid's remaining fixtures

  • MD 29: Getafe vs Barcelona and Cadiz vs Real Madrid
  • MD 30: Barcelona vs Atletico and Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo
  • MD 31: Rayo Vallecano vs Barcelona and Girona vs Real Madrid
  • MD 32: Barcelona vs Real Betis and Real Madrid vs Almeria
  • MD 33: Barcelona vs Osasuna and Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid
  • MD 34: Espanyol vs Barcelona and Real Madrid vs Getafe
  • MD 35: Barcelona vs Real Sociedad and Valencia vs Real Madrid
  • MD 36: Real Valladolid vs Barcelona and Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano
  • MD 37: Barcelona vs Mallorca and Sevilla vs Real Madrid
  • MD 38: Celta Vigo vs Barcelona and Athletic Club vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid can delay Barcelona's title celebrations

However, Atletico Madrid should not be forgotten. For Barcelona to be champions by Matchday 31, the Rojoblancos would have to lose (in addition to the direct clash against Barcelona on Matchday 30), one of the two matches against Almeria and Mallorca on matchdays 29 and 31.

This would be the fast-track route, though it is clear to everyone that such an immediate outcome is highly improbable.

If Barcelona and Real Madrid were to win all their matches, Xavi's team would be crowned champions in a very exciting clash. It would be in Cornella against Espanyol with a Perico side struggling to avoid relegation.

These are the predictions if Barcelona win all their games and with Real Madrid losing all their games (Barcelona would be champions on Matchday 31) or Los Blancos winning all their games (they would be champions on Matchday 34).
