Canelo puts pressure on Checo Perez: It's his turn and I hope he also wins for Mexico

It is a big weekend for Mexican sport and particularly for the city of Guadalajara. On Saturday, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez returned to the boxing ring and successfully defended his super middleweight title against John Ryder.

On the same day, Formula 1 driver Checo Perez secured pole position in qualifying ahead of the Miami Grand Prix which takes place on Sunday evening.

With Max Verstappen only qualifying in P9 after a red flag thanks to Charles Leclerc's crash, Checo has a superb chance to win back-to-back races. He took the chequered flag in Azerbaijan last weekend too.

Canelo himself recalled that tomorrow is a big day for Checo and took advantage of the microphone after his fight to wish the Guadalajara native good luck: "Tomorrow it's his turn and I hope he also wins for Mexico."

It is not the first time that Canelo has wished success to Checo. In September, the last time he fought, he also coincided with a race of Checo and dedicated a few words to him, considering him also a top representative of Mexican sport.

The close relationship between Canelo and Checo

The two sportsmen have several similarities: They were born in the state of Jalisco and their period of greatest glory came during a similar period. In fact, Canelo has already visited Checo in a paddock at the Mexico City Grand Prix and wished the Red Bull driver luck.
