Joselu is officially announced as Real Madrid's latest signing

There has been another signing at Real Madrid, with the capital city club announcing the acquisition of former Castilla player Joselu on loan from Espanyol.

He arrives at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to add an option to attack, after Los Blancos saw four forwards depart at the end of last season.

Joselu was with relegated Espanyol last season, but had a good year on an individual level by scoring 17 goals in LaLiga Santander.

Aged 33, he returns to the club he was at between 2009 and 2012, when he mostly played for Castilla, the B team.

He only played two matches for Jose Mourinho's first team during that time, but is hoping to contribute as a squad player in 2023/24.

The striker is now a part of the Spanish national team and brings experience with him, having played at Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover, Stoke City, Deportivo de La Coruna, Newcastle, Alaves and Espanyol.

In total, he has made 470 professional appearances and scored a total of 148 goals and provided 39 assists.

By scoring the winner in the Nations League semi-finals against Italy, he helped La Roja win their first international trophy in over a decade.

Real Madrid's statement about the transfer of Joselu

"Real Madrid and Espanyol have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Joselu, who will play for the club for the next season, with an option to buy at the end of the season," a Real Madrid statement said.

"Joselu joined Real Madrid's youth academy at the age of 20 and played two seasons with Castilla, making his first-team debut for Real Madrid in 2011.

"Joselu is a Spanish international, having just won the 2023 Nations League with his country.

"Joselu will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player on Tuesday, June 20, at 11:00 at Real Madrid City. Joselu will then speak to the media."
