Warrant Issued for Cristiano Ronaldo’s DNA in Rape Case

The Las Vegas police have requested a DNA sample from footballer Cristiano Ronaldo from the Italian authorities. The lawyer of the 33-year-old speaks of a "very usual request".

As a result of the rape allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo, the police in Las Vegas have requested a DNA sample of the footballer. The "Wall Street Journal" reported on Thursday, citing a prosecutor. The police confirmed to the news agency dpa that an "official request" had been made to authorities in Italy - in Italy, Ronaldo currently plays for Juventus. DNA evidence would be collected in the same way as in other cases of sexual assault.

American Kathryn Mayorga accuses Ronaldo of raping her in 2009. SPIEGEL had first reported in the spring of 2017. The documentation comes in large part from the Football Leaks disclosure platform.

Mayorga has filed civil action against Ronaldo in Las Vegas. The then 24-year-old Portuguese had met her there in a nightclub, invited him to his hotel suite and then raped her, according to the complaint. He then apologized and stated that he was "usually a gentleman".

Ronaldo rejects the rape allegations.
